Thank you for visiting my website! And, thank you for considering my qualifications, and – hopefully - electing me to Aurora City Council, Ward III. After living here for 30 years and raising my family of five children, I’ve seen many changes. I know, with your help, we can make Aurora even better. You deserve to have a voice on the Council by a dedicated neighbor with no motive other than the best interests of Ward III’s citizens. I pledge leadership during this time of financial hardship.

Below are my first priorities when you honor me with your vote for Marsha Berzins to represent you on the Aurora City Council.

TRANSPARENCY

Aurora should be more transparent in how your hard earned tax dollars are spent. Aurora is #1 in the nation as the best digital information city; we can use technology to give you accurate and timely reports on City revenues and expenditures.
Let’s create monthly or quarterly updates on the city’s web page for budget reports, changes in zoning and code enforcement, library hours, pool closings, and other news you can use.
It’s your hometown. With easier access you can make suggestions and have a stronger voice in the City policies that affect you. I welcome your suggestions!

BALANCE THE CITY BUDGET

I will work hard to balance the City budget without new taxes or fees. Now is NOT the time to burden you with additional payments to government.
I promise you a “common sense” approach to balancing the budget. Do you ever feel as though politicians just don’t “get it” or that you can’t pay for anything else? I know exactly how you feel, and I promise to make you and your family my first priority.
We need to fix the structural problems within the City budget and not keep hacking away at services, like libraries and pools. I’ll analyze the “big ticket” items first to see where we can be more efficient with our money, then move on from there.

MORE JOBS/SMALL BUSINESS ADVOCATE

Small business is the engine that drives Colorado’s economy. I’ll work to bring more jobs to Aurora and be an advocate for our small businesses. As a small business owner myself, I’ll work to revise policies to decrease the amount of paperwork, taxes, and red tape so our businesses can thrive and grow.
Let’s make planning, permitting, zoning, code enforcement, and tax regulation more business friendly to bring businesses into Aurura and help our current businesses expand.
We can add more jobs to expand our housing market – a win-win situation. I’ll work with the Realtors Association, Business Development Offices, Chamber of Commerce, Code Enforcement, and other groups to make this happen for Aurora.

LOWER WATER RATES

Aurora water rates have skyrocketed. We’ve made progress with our new Prairie Waters Project as a dependable water system, but there is still work to do. I’ll focus on ways to get water bills down to a reasonable price as soon as possible.

LEADERSHIP

My pledge to you is that I will make you and your family my first priority. This is not a springboard to another political position for me. I will give Ward III my full attention.
